Terms of Use for Baobab App & Website

1. Introduction

Welcome to Baobab, a platform for community conflict reporting and resolution. By using the Baobab mobile app, you agree to comply with these Terms of Use. Please read them carefully before using the app. If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the service.

2. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Baobab app, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms of Use, as well as our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.

3. Description of Service

Baobab provides a mobile application that allows users to report conflicts and crimes within their communities anonymously. Reported incidents are used solely for the purpose of conflict tracking and resolution by authorized conflict mediators.

4. User Privacy and Security

  • Encryption: All user profiles and personal information are encrypted to ensure privacy and security. No identifiable personal data will be used or shared with third parties.
  • Data Usage: Only the data you report (conflicts or crimes) will be used by Baobab for conflict tracking and community analysis. Personal user data, such as names, addresses, or contact information, will never be used for conflict mediation or shared with any other entities.
  • Conflict Tracking Backdoor: Baobab allows authorized conflict mediators to track reported conflicts. This system is designed to help mediators resolve disputes effectively without revealing user identities.

5. User Responsibilities

  • Accurate Reporting: Users must ensure that all reports submitted via Baobab are accurate to the best of their knowledge. False or misleading reports are prohibited.
  • Prohibited Conduct: Users must not use the Baobab app for unlawful activities, harassment, or to promote violence. Any misuse of the platform may result in immediate suspension or termination of access.

6. Limitations of Liability

  • Reporting: Baobab does not take responsibility for the outcomes of any conflicts reported through the app. While we provide tools for conflict tracking and mediation, the responsibility for conflict resolution lies with the mediators and involved parties.
  • App Functionality: Baobab is provided on an “as-is” basis. While we aim to provide a reliable and secure platform, we do not guarantee that the app will always be available, error-free, or secure.

7. Amendments to Terms

Baobab reserves the right to modify or amend these Terms of Use at any time. Users will be notified of any significant changes through the app, and continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

8. Termination

Baobab reserves the right to terminate or suspend user access to the app if a user is found to be violating these Terms of Use or engaging in prohibited behavior.

9. Governing Law

These Terms of Use will be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of [South Africa].
